Venom, directed by Ruben Fleischer and produced by Columbia Pictures will hit the theatres in October this year. Venom is one of the most popular character in the Marvel Universe. Academy Award nominated actor Tom Hardy is portraying the role. Here are some interesting details about the film:
Set in San Francisco
It looks like the film is set in San Francisco and is somewhat inspired from the comic Venom: Lethal Protector. In the comic Venom leaves New York and moves to San Francisco. Venom makes an agreement with Spider-Man that he will commit no crime. But the similarities with the comic end here as the lethal protector fights alongside Spider-Man in the later stages of the comic.
Eddie Brock (played by Tom hardy) is an investigative journalist. He is trying to uncover some truth about the Life Foundation (read below). While doing so he becomes the host for the alien symbiote, turning him into Venom. Eddie struggles to keep control of his body as the symbiote dominates him and in the final moments of the trailer they become Venom.
It is an organisation which experiments on human with the alien symbiotes. Carlton Drake (played by Riz Ahmed) is the head of Life Foundation. Eddie Brock breaks into this research facility to uncover Life Foundation’s secrets. Many symbiotes can be seen in the trailer being experimented upon in the facility.
Michelle Williams plays Ann Weying, the love interest of Eddie Brock . She is a lawyer and it is clear from the trailer that she works for the life foundation. In the comics she eventually becomes the She-Venom but it is highly unlikely that it is going to be the same in the film.
Carnage is expected to make his debut in the film. He is formed by merging with a serial killer named Cleatus Kasady. He is rumoured to be played by Woody Harrelson.
Spider-Man can make a short cameo in the movie, but this is as far as anyone knows. Maybe Tom Holland will blurt out something but until then it remains a mystery.
Let’s wait and see if Sony can pull-off a stand alone Venom movie.
