Marvel’s Infinity War, deemed as the most ambitious crossover in the history of superhero movies brings us the most famous Marvel comics super villain: Thanos – The Mad Titan. Now if you’re not a total nerd you may not know much about Thanos played by Josh Brolin, but we’re here to help you with it when your geeky friend forces you to watch the movie with him (or her or whatever). So here are 5 really weird facts about the Big Purple Man.
Desire to lose
Believe it or not Thanos being the most powerful in the universe with all the infinity stones has a subconscious desire to lose. Self-consciousness and anxiety have been major reasons in the comics for fall of this titan in many instances and have held him back. Hard to digest that someone so powerful can have anxiety but then again, I too sometimes get nervous so, meh.
Drax was created to kill him
Drax the Destroyer played by Dave Bautista in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been used as a comic relief in Guardians of the Galaxy movies, but in the comics his sole purpose is to kill Thanos and in many editions he has fulfilled it. Drax was created by Thanos’ own father and grandfather by putting Arthur Douglas’ soul into a clay body whose only purpose is to defeat the Mad Titan.
Thanos Celebrates Christmas
The Mad Titan is not religious if that’s what you’re thinking. Gamora, his daughter (played by Zoe Saldana) is the reason why Thanos celebrates Christmas. He wanted to give her a normal childhood so that she would not become a psychopathic killing machine and that is why he chose to celebrate a holiday (Christmas in this case). They even had a Christmas tree and a Santa Claus to celebrate it. (Thanos takes his Christmas seriously guys)
In love with Death
Thanos has been romantically obsessed with Death. In comics Death revives Thanos to maintain the balance between life and death. The Mad Titan after being revived fall for Death. So, in order to woo Death, he goes on a mission to collect all the infinity stones and does so. But Death is not impressed at all by this as this disturbs the balance because now Thanos is all too powerful.
Snapped fingers to wipe half of the universe
Now this is interesting. In comics when the big Purple Man collects all the infinity stones he wants to test his power. So, he snaps his fingers and half of the universe gets wiped out. This should give you some idea as to why he is called The Mad Titan and why the Avengers are in a whole lot of trouble. (especially the ones who don’t really have any superpower)
